Common snapping turtle

Chelydra serpentina

Description:

very young and small, not much bigger than a lens cap.

Habitat:

near canal

Notes:

I spotted this on a trail along the old canal leading to Glendale Ave. This turtle was right in the middle of the skinny trail I was on. I noticed and stopped a took a few photos just in case it made a break for it. After a while I got so close to it that I thought it was dead. It wasn't, it was just extremely still and co-operative.
