Pleasing Picture-winged Antlion

Glenurus gratus

Description:

Very large arthropod with long wings mottled with brown and pink wing-pattern at the ends. The deep gold design on the back of the thorax is extremely intricate: it looks like two clasped arms are protruding from a capsule or egg. The tail terminates in a deep gold color as well.

Habitat:

Forest

Notes:

Found fluttering near a bush and landed on the side of a house before it flew off again. Initially I thought it was a dragonfly but it flew really slow with a hovering and fast wing beat.
