Impatiens capensis
Tall, leafy plant with pendent golden-orange flowers splotched with reddish-brown. Flowers are about 1 inch long, tube or funnel shaped with a long narrow spur at the back that curls back under the tube. Nectar is stored in the spur. Fruit is a thin pod about 1 inch long that pops open at the slightest touch, throwing seeds in all directions, hence the name "touch me not."
Spotted along the Ottertail River at the Chippewa Picnic area at Tamarac NWR. Habitat: shaded wetlands.
