Calypso bulbosa
Also called "fairy-slipper", I think the Calypso orchid is our most exotic-looking native wildflower here in Northern California. They grow in deep redwood forest/riparian habitats and have a very short (but prolific) flowering season.
deep redwood forest/riparian
Our best friends have these growing all around their house. Beautiful!

Yes, Alice, the common name hereabouts is also "lady slipper". :o)
I don't mind, Dan, in the least! Thank-you! :o)
They really ARE, aren't they, Steffi? I just adore them!
So beautiful!
Great spotting! Jean I hope you don't mind, I changed the order of your pictures so that the close up of the bloom is the first picture you see. I also added a reference link and added this to the Flowers of North America mission.
Very Lovely, Perhaps comparable to our Lady Slippers in the East.
