A Big-Headed fly with red eyes and a grey body. The wings of these flies are twice the length of the body. This one is a female, 3mm in length. Most of the Big-Headed Flies are endoparasites of Leaf Hoppers and Plant Hoppers. Family Pipunculidae.
Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.
See the reference for an interesting description of the Pipunculidae.
