spined predatory shield bug, Schellenberg's soldier bug

Oechalia schellenbergii

Description:

This is the first and so far only spotting of this species in my yard. As its common name implies it is a predator (on caterpillars and other soft-bodies insects).

Habitat:

Observed in a large semi-urban yard/garden adjacent to a disturbed patch of remnant forest, in the equatorial tropics of northern New Guinea.
