A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Smilisca baudinii
About 8 to 10 cm. One of the first big rains of the season last night and photo was taken at 2 am. It has been unusually dry this rainy season,,,,so far. There was a lot of thunder, lightning and frog croaking!
The rains start around the middle of May and stop by the end of September. It is green and plush during this time. It rains an average of 8 - 10 days out of the month. Due to the mixed deciduous forest Huatulco is green six months and dry six months. During the dry season it becomes dry and brown, however, the beauty is still there. You will find many flowering trees and cactus standing out on the hillsides that were hidden behind the green vines earlier. The Huatulco area vegetation is exuberant. There are many species of trees that include plantations of bananas and papaya, and coconuts. The jungle covered hillsides gently slop off into the beautiful seashore.
