Arenaria interpres
This is a small wader about 23 cm (9 in) in length. The bill is short and dark. Legs are orange. Juveniles (shown) have a pale brown head, unlike the more strikingly marked adults.
This bird is widely distributed in the northern hemisphere, often near oceans. Most migrate to shoreline areas suitable habitat in northern hemisphere, but many fly much further south to winter along shorelines in the southern hemisphere.
