House finch

Haemorhous mexicanus

Description:

The House finch (Haemorhous mexicanus) was spotted on my backyard feeder. It is estimated that there maybe up to 1.4 billion of these birds in North America. These birds were brought to New York from the west coast and flourished!

Habitat:

In the west, House finches tend to occupy deserts, grasslands, oak savannahs, and stream sides. In the eastern U.S they tend to thrive in more urban or human made habitats, such as a backyard bird feeder.

Notes:

It was 9am when I saw this bird. Pamela Juarez
