Hermit Crab (Soldier Crab in Caribbean)

Coenobita clypeatus

Habitat:

The fella in the picture was found on the Johnny Horn Trail (http://www.seestjohn.com/trails_johnny_h...) St. John, US Virgin Islands. The trail is a dry upland forest environment. If your half paying attention, your see the ground move now and then, it's probably a hermit crab.

Notes:

Originally in 2005 I found these in a small colony on the reefbay trail on St. John, US Virgin Islands, next to the petrogylphs. Very large in size.

Interesting see it far from water, in a dry place.
