metalmark moth

Choreutis lutescens

Description:

A tiny metalmark moth so named from the metallic scales which leave a distinct "mark" on the wings (as clearly seen in the above specimen). This group of moths occurs worldwide.

Habitat:

Seen in a large semi-urban yard/garden adjacent to a disturbed patch of remnant forest.

Notes:

This is a very tiny moth. See 4th photo for a sense of scale (leaf is 38mm across at the point where the moth was photographed), Interesting "raccoon face" pattern in 2nd photo. This moth is similar to, or may be C. metallica http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_...
