Fungus Gnat

Mycetophila fungorum

Description:

Fungus gnats are somewhat similar to mosquitoes, but if you look closely, they lack the long, straight sucking proboscis that biting mosquitoes have. Most of the fungus gnats have a large swollen chest area, the head is small and is attached far down the front of the chest, so that the fungus gnat looks hunchbacked. The species are more or less brown-yellow in colour.

Habitat:

Attracted by the light in a front porch.

Notes:

Norwegian name: Soppmygg

Thanks Mark! My Sony zoom camera requires good light when taking pictures of small insects. That's why I also use flash in addition to daylight.
