Mourning Dove

Zenaida macroura

Description:

Drving along the auto tour route of the Ridgefield NWR, I spotted this pair of Mourning Doves on a tree branch. A bit of fill flash was used to bring out more detail than might have been possible in the shade where they were.

Habitat:

Many times I see doves foraging for food on the gravel road at the refuge. They can be less skittish than many species as they will sometimes allow you to drive right up to them.
