American Kestrel (zoo)

Falco sparverius

Notes:

in captivity as a show-and-tell bird at the Capilano Suspension Bridge & Park in North Vancouver. the bird guide there said this bird is from South America. while photographing him, i think he was distracted by some crows calling from above, so i got a few nice photos of him staring up in this peculiar pose.

Hi BenjiSun! When you get your spottings of Reifel Bird Sanctuary posted on Project Noah, could you add any of them that breed in BC to the new mission:

i think it's that particular bird they rescued from somewhere in South America. it's been a few months so my memory is a bit hazy. if i ever head back to Vancouver, i would like to visit the Bird Sanctuary in Ladner again. what a lovely place.

Okay, I see that although the spotting is located in Vancouver, you are not normally!! Anyhow, they are also found wild in the area where you saw them in the zoo. :) which is near where I live!

Hi! You can also see the American Kestrel in the Vancouver Checklist area where you live during some times of the year. Watch the power lines beside the road near fields in Ladner and the Fraser Valley. I have recorded sightings of them in Jan, March, April, May, Oct and November but am sure they are around even more than that. A beautiful pic of a gorgeous little falcon.

These are native here in Southern California too, not just South America.
