Leaf Beetle on wattle

Paropsisterna sp.

Description:

A cute leaf beetle with red markings somewhat lost on a flowering acacia.

Habitat:

Nature reserve, on wattle,

Notes:

These beetles belong on Eucalyptus and this fellow appears to be looking for a more palatable host. We have called this Paropsisterna obovata but I am not sure if that is correct.

There are many habitats where these beetles are almost totally absent.
Best results are sometimes on dry rocky soils. Tall forests such as Mt Dandenong and Warburton yield poorly. I find fertile hunting grounds along the Yarra River. Look on Golden Wattles for Peltoschema. Silver gums like box and ironbark are good. Look on trees where leaves have bite marks.
