Spotting

Many Australian bird names are onomatopoeic, like curawong, and mopoke for example. Speaking of curawongs, I've been listening to the clinking curawong (makes a repetitive clinking sound) all morning, as they fly from one side of our valley to the other, and I've yet to get a photo. Damn birds. ;)

And the name comes from their vocalization which can be quite astonishing if you are not prepared for it!

I almost just said a cracatid of some sort. I've never heard of chachalacas before. They have a great name.

Vaguely makes me think of a Guan, except that they usually have some sort of contrasting color on their heads or throats. But then I can't really see the throat.
