Rita Blue

Euphilotes rita

Small butterfly, colored as shown on the underside of the wings. Bold black spots are characteristic of the genus.

Found in degraded shortgrass prairie habitat with yucca, prickly-pear cacti, buckwheat, grasses, etc.

One of the "buckwheat blues" that feeds as a larva on Eriogonom spp. Easily mistaken for an Acmon Blue, but spots behind orange band on hindwing are *black*, not metallic blue.
