Pigeon Horntail Wasp

Description:

Horntail wasp! Really big - 5 cm long. Noted by it's horn like tail or ovipositor that lays eggs in wood. Apparently pretty nasty wood pest.

Habitat:

Found dead on an old window sill.

I think it is a Pigeon tremex. I recently spotted one.

Looks to me like a horntail wasp (family Siricidae: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horntail). This page might help to ID it further: http://bugguide.net/node/view/226.
