ceherzog is right. It's a vine. I have one in my backyard too. Climbs on trees. And it's a flower.

We have one of these growing in our yard and my husband calls it a pipevine, I don't know if that is a common name or just what he calls it. It is beautiful when there are many of them in bloom at once.
