Caps. 0.25 to 1 inches wide; shell to kidney-shaped; convex; surface dry and rough; ‘corrugated’ radially; orange-brown to dark reddish brown-black with age; margins incurved. Gills. Strongly arched, narrow; rusty brown to dark red-brown to blackish. Stipe. Absent or rudimentary

Habitat:

Growing alone and in clusters on the trunk of a tree, twigs, and a fallen oak log near a small stream.
