Grammia
I encountered this beauty at a Sheetz Gas Station and likely rescued it from being trampled, as it was tucked up against the big rubber welcome-style mat right in front of the door. Thankfully no one walked out while I was herding it onto my hand to move it.
Sheetz Gas Station, near a wooded area.
No worries - I think I had the very same experience in regards to this very moth, as I looked through the pages on BuGuide!
Yeah, i got excited and jumped the gun there. A good education no less and a really wonderful spot made even better by the story :)
Thanks to all! Craig, it certainly could be that one, but unfortunately there are several others it looks just like. I spent some time perusing the Grammia pages of BugGuide and ended up giving up hope because too many are too similar. I didn't get a good look at its underwings.
......although on further investigation, I guess you need to see the underwings to get down to species level.
Just stumbled across a picture that looks identical to this, whilst looking for something else. What an art nouveau beauty!
