Persimmon (Brazilian name : caqui ) is a common fruit in Brazil ! By the way I believe that its season is soon.
About the juice, some people fells the effect of light somnolence, others don't. To avoid any problem, it's better not drive long distances or when you are tired.

Ok! I think it may be ok to try. I tried wild persimmon today and did not expire, so I will try this. Lol~ It supposedly has a sedative effect? Is that just the juice or would it also apply to the fruit or preserves too. And lastly, is it safe to drive after drinking the juice or eating the fruit due to the sedative effect?

p.young, I have never seen the flowers of your spotting before (by the way....very beautiful). The flowers of passion fruit that I saw were similar, but white. I am not sure this flower is the one that you can eat the fruit. I will ask to Rubens Luciano, maybe he knows.

Sounds great, I will try it too! Do you have to pick it for it to ripen or does it ripen on the vine? Its from the passion flower?

Emma ...Maypops looks like the Maracujá fruit, but the leaves are different.

Yes Emma, when the the fruit is ripe, its color is yellow or orange...look at google images...look for the name Maracujá that is the Brazilian name for passion fruit, and you will see the fruit when ready to be eaten ...will appear also many types of delicious desserts....

In the the pictures that I took, maybe more 3 or four days it turns yellow ....and ready to be eaten...

Karen and p.young , most of the passion fruits are astringent, but there some types that are very sweet..
You can do jelly, cakes, flan, mousse, Juice and Caipirinha drink ( Traditional Brazilian Drink, with passion fruit instead lemon) !
The juice has an incredible tranquilizer effect....

They are technically edible but they are very astringent. I believe you can use them to make jelly though.
