Podalia orsilochus
The Portuguese name of this caterpillar (puppy dog) refers to its resemblance to Pekingese dogs. In english they are known as puss caterpillars. It is the larval stage of a flannel moth, belonging to the family Megalopygidae. These larvae are known for their venomous spines that can cause a painful sting and inflammation lasting for several days.
