Yep, the one in our back yard is in three meter range, and still growing. And yes, they are a weed. They've spread all along the highways (seeming to like the disturbed soils) in Tasmania.

It's an americana. It's a noxious weed! If you put it in the ground, it sends out runners and new innocent looking little agaves pop up all over the garden and then turn into giant monsters!

Thank you both. It does look like Agave americana var. marginata. I think this one must have been on steroids because it definitely exceeds the 2 meter description.
