Absolutely true!! I tell you, there can be (especially for Russulas) five mushrooms that look like this one in your spotting, and they can all be a different species. You needs lots of tools and guides, as well as experience, to properly ID some mushrooms.

Yes, a Russula -- though badly injured, it's of this genus. IDing to species is tough however, so unless you have more information, this is as far as we can get.
