yep, unfortunately the only good Butterflies books I know are the Devries Butterflies of Costa Rica, and they are very very hard to found
Specially you need some time for searching in books and on the web and it is easier when you know where to start with...
you are probably right. This species are very similar each other. For making a good identification you need each, a good book or/and the opinion of an specialist
Mechanitis polymnia isthmia. Heliconius has never red on/behind the head.
