Eastern Lubber Grasshopper

Romalea guttata

Description:

A GORGEOUS, large grasshopper that I see every year here in Florida. They literally were swarming the banks along the rivers at the wildlife refuge where this was taken. When they're young, they're mostly black with yellow stripes, and when they mature, they are bright yellow with orange-red wings.

Habitat:

River/pond banks. Marshy areas.
