Purple Coneflowers

Echinacea purpurea

Description:

This is my new favorite flower. I spotted these gorgeous purple coneflowers at the UC Berkeley Botanical Gardens Old Rose Garden. This variety is called "Ruby Star." I love the color and the shape of the flowers. After spotting these, I went out and bought a plant for my garden!

Habitat:

UC Berkeley Botanical Gardens Old Rose Garden, Berkeley, CA

Notes:

One study shows E. purpurea has antidepressant properties in white rats as it increased the stimulating action of L-DOPA. Echinacea is believed by many people to stimulate the immune system. Wikipedia
