Huntsman Spider

Description:

A huge Sparassidae Huntsman Spider covered in light brown hairs. Central body length about 3cm / 30mm. It has 2 rows of eyes, 4 eyes each row. A black line runs through its back. Quite difficult to determine itssex because the palps are hidden, possibly a male. It is easily mistaken as Tarantula by most people. Possibly Gnathopalystes sp.

Habitat:

Between big leaves high up the tree branches. Found in a park in Pekan Nabalu, Kundasang, Sabah, Malaysia.

Notes:

After lunch in a restaurant in Pekan Nabalu (a small town near Mount Kinabalu), I went to the park nearby to enjoy the view of the majestic Mount Kinabalu. While walking around the park, I saw this spider sitting on a leaf on a tree. This discovery amazes me because this is the first time I saw such a large huntsman spider. >>>Map accuracy : 10m radius.

Yes, but it did not put out it's palps so I cannot determine it's gender.
I could only guess that it's a she because it's palps looks kind of slender in the 2nd photo.

There are 83 genus of Huntsman spider.
Just thinking of going through all those to find this species ID, phew!
Out of the 5 main genus shown in Wikipedia, Heteropoda is the most likely one.
Any objections? or suggestions?

Yes we have a few spiders here... Even in our house (see http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/705... and http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/706...).... But I haven't seen anything quite as big as your Huntsman!!

Thanks, I am also planning to find more fantastic spiders in the Phillipines when I would have the chance to visit there.
