I saw this from shore. I see these birds almost every time I go down to the beach. sometimes 2 or 3 at a time.

Were you offshore? Murrelets are more pelagic birds.

This appear to be along the size of a duck. Please let me know if my size estimation is off. The closest match that I have found is
