Thanks Maria. It does indeed look very similar (I added a zoomed photo), and I have found a mention of Valanga irregularis in PNG. I'll be returning to this spotting after a bit more research. Thanks again

Hi, please see above in the suggestion a link I found where are displayed also the nymphs. This grasshopper is native to Australia, here you can find a map of the distribution. http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?titl... It might be possible that it could reach also your location. However I am not sure. I didn't find any wikipedia article in English, there is information in German language.
