Black Horsefly Larvae

Description:

Worm like body; approx. 1 inch long; clear body except for black bands; both ends of body come to a point.

Habitat:

Burrowed in mud in a central Texas pond.

Notes:

Moves by sucking water into body and expelling it violently. Curls up before expelling water to move faster/farther. Cannot moves when not in water. Often stays on top of water.
