Sand Pine

Pinus clausa

Description:

Smaller sized pine. Fast growing, bushy w/ small cones.

Habitat:

Endemic to SE USA (and FL). This specimen was in the edge area of scrub oak in a well drained soil. In a County preserve.

Notes:

The species was once divided into 2 variations separated by the way the cones responded to fire (or not). Since the 1980's though most experts refer to it as Pinus clausa (no variations).
