A medium-size brown butterfly with bold eyespots on the upper surfaces of its wings, feeding on Marigold flowers (Tagetes sp.). Thanks for your advice, Dan and Alice!
They are definetly Marigolds, and Dan is correct. The sun always gives us trouble when we want a picture on a hot day. I have learned sometimes to stand so that my body throws a shadow on my subject.
