black bean bug

Brachyplatys sp.

Description:

Superficially these insects resemble beetles but thanks to Noah spotter input I am now calling these shield bugs in the Family Plataspidae or Plataspididae. See http://eol.org/pages/2645348/overview. PROVISIONALLY, "black bean bugs." Brachyplatys sp. See http://www.pestnet.org/SummariesofMessag... AND http://www.faperta.ugm.ac.id/perlintan20... Another possible genus is Coptosoma http://eol.org/pages/3741324/overview

Habitat:

This spotting on vegetation in fence row in coastal zone village (near ocean beach, sago swamp and forest).

Notes:

These are the small bugs I find on the terrace furniture at my field base every morning as featured in previous spotting http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/749..., but in a more natural setting here.
