Spoonbills are a group of large, long-legged wading birds in the family Threskiornithidae, which also includes the ibises. Spoonbills feed by wading through shallow water, sweeping the partly opened bill from side to side. As soon as anything touches the inside of the bill, it is snapped shut. Fun to watch...
I saw these birds along the banks of Kazinga Channel between Lake George and Lake Edward during a boat tour.
The Kazinga Channel in Uganda is a wide, 32-kilometre long natural channel that connects Lake George, (which is to the east) and Lake Edward (which is to the west). This channel is among the most important features in Queen Elizabeth National Park (which is the most well-liked game reserve in Uganda covering an entire land area of 1,978 sq km). The channel has the wonderful view of the most important wildlife ventures within Queen Elizabeth National Park.
