false pixie cup lichen

Cladonia chlorophaea?

Description:

I found lots of these lichens in damp pine woods at an elevation a little over 10,000 feet. The ID is my best guess, but I'm happy to update if anyone has an alternate idea. Anyway I thought they were really pretty, like little fairy villages.

Thanks Cindy! The Durango area is really beautiful. I've only lived here for a few months, but it's great to be right between mountains and desert... Drive or walk a few miles in any direction, and you find yourself in a totally different landscape.

Awesome spotting! I've never been to Durango, only northern and central CO. It's on my destination list though!
