Hyboschema contractum (/ sobrinum)
This brown beetle was about 4 cm (1.6 inches) long. Same as this spotting: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/710...
Hills overlooking Manila.
She was crawling along the edge of the table, coming closer and closer to where I was sitting behind my laptop...

Thanks textless!
I have to admit to not being very keen on (translation: scared of) these beetles, who are regular visitors to our home. But after taking these photos my feelings are changing a bit: they are pretty good looking beetles after all... :-)
Excellent beetle, and nice photos!
ID updated.
Haha, of course you can change your mind! :-)
I'm just grateful for any time you can spend helping me find the right ID!
So, the scientific name is Hyboschema contractum (/ sobrinum). What would the common name be? Simply: Rhinoceros Beetle?
Could I come back and change my mind?

It's still in the same family and closely related to the Coconut Beetle :)
Thanks again CorduneanuVlad! :-)
Yes, you can find it under the name of Coconut beetle or Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle.
ID updated.
Is this beetle also known as a Coconut beetle?
Thanks so much for the ID!
Looks like a female Indian Rhinoceros Beetle (Oryctes rhinoceros)
