Two moorhens were spotted again today at this hotspot. These are some of the clearest photos to date. They prefer to hide in shadows when they know they are being watched so close up viewing is very difficult.
Urban riverine characterised by patches of regularly mowed giant reed and a high diversity of exotic urban landscape. Other species identified in the immediate ecosystem include: little egret, great egret, grey heron, common toad, European magpie and the exotic Louisiana crayfish (Procambarus clarkii) known locally as "gambero killer".
This is the third spotting of these moorhens and offers the most definitive species identification.

Moorhens have been spotted again at this location 10/20/11 & 10/21/2011. Safe to say they are feeding daily here. There seem to be 2 chicks if that's the right word. They know where to hide and jump through connecting culverts to escape into adjacent canals when it suits them.
