Hello MartineViljoen, and welcome to Project Noah. It looks like your giraffe is Giraffa camelopardalis giraffa, the South African girrafe. Giraffe coat colors vary from light tan to practically black. It seems that differences occur due to what the giraffes eat and where they live. So it is interesting indeed that only the male would be so dark. Maybe someone else can provide another explanation.
