Alcedo atthis
A small blue and green kingfisher with rust coloured underparts. SHort tail and long, straight and pointed beak. Normally it drops down on the kill, beak first in the water. Hovers sometimes like the pied kingfisher. Eats small fishes, tadpoles and aquatic insects. Nest is a horizontal hole dug in the bank of streams, 50 cms to a meter in length, ending in a widened egg chamber.
Near streams/rivers.
The last pic is from an old spotting.
