Description:

Bluish gray head with shaggy crest, long, thick powerful bill, white collar, white belly (female has chestnut band across breast and chestnut flanks), bluish slate upperparts. The bird has an unmistakable "rattling" call and is usually heard before being seen.

Habitat:

Likes areas of water where prey is visble from perches. This bird is also known to hover over water in lieu of using a perch.
