A Plant of the genus Amorphophallus

Amorphophallus konjac

Description:

Also known as konjak, konjaku, konnyaku (in Japanese or Korean language), also devil's tongue, voodoo lily, snake palm, elephant yam

Habitat:

A perennial (sometimes referred to as yam) plant native to warm subtropical to tropical eastern Asia, from Japan, China and south to Indonesia. It grows from a large starchy underground plant stem upto 25cm in diameter and divided into numerous leaflets.

Notes:

Used to create a flour and jelly of same name-konnyaku, can also be used as a substitute for gelatin. A common winter dish in Japan called Oden features this mottled grey colored 0 calorie but high on fiber food.
