European Green Toad - poss. Variable toad

Bufo viridis laurenti ((Pseudepidalea)) (possible classification Bufo variabilis)

This guy is one of the larger ones I have found in the garden. He is around 7cm + snout-to-rump. Usually they are smaller. I get new froglets (and toadlets) partying in my garden every year. This one has been around for quite some time now. They seem to get accustomed to daily activities and some will actually come right out and jump on my hand as soon as the watering hose comes on. I guess they figured I am the bringer of water after a long scorching mediterranean summer day. I love them of course - they are too cute for words- and they are more than welcome! :)

Hi Darwin :) Thanks for your note! Wow, I wish we had opportunities like that on this hot rock!!! Maybe I will start my own program! :) Cyprus climate is a bit messed up right now. Mandarine trees, for example, have bloomed twice this year and one of mine bore fruit 3 times so far since January alone!. It is autumn now but it feels like springtime. Judging by my tortoise's apetite and the number of ticks my dogs bring back home... I figure wildlife must think it is springtime too! Nothing is hibernating yet...

Such a Prince!
... just came back from an evening of reptiles and amphibians at our local Audubon Education Cntr.
My Great Plains Toads are headed to bed for the next 6 months... so it must be Spring time in Cyprus?
We got to hold a Tiger Salamander and a Bull Snake -
thanks for your sympatico postings.
