Western Conifer Seed Bug

Leptoglossus occidentalis

Description:

Conifer seed bug hiding in the folds of an outdoor furniture cover

Habitat:

Rural deciduous area, Clermont County

Notes:

Fun fact: Commonly mistaken for the dreaded biting Kissing Bug, this leaf-footed bug is actually completely harmless. When threatened, it sprays enemies with a rather pleasant-smelling liquid reminiscent of green apple and pine trees.
