Edible dormouse/Polh

Glis glis

Description:

Small animal (14-19cm long), has long tail, has big eyes, looks like a furry mouse, gray, squeeks quite loud

Habitat:

Likes to dwell in attics, can be found in forests, in mountainy area, are quite common in Slovenia (Dinaric Alps, Alps, submediteran ...)

Notes:

They hibernate; can be found in Slovenian folklore as devils that dwell; they made "polhovka"'s out of these creatures (out of their furs)-this is a really warm cover for head; they still catch them here when it's a season; this "polh" (slovenian for edible dormouse) was found dead in the middle of road :(
