Tricolored Heron (juvenile)

Description:

This heron's wings and body are mainly cobalt blue. Only juvenile tricolored herons have a red-brown neck and spots of the same color on their backs and wings.

Habitat:

Solitary bird seen wading in a mangrove and cypress swamp at Big Cypress National Preserve.
