Lady Bug

Coccinella septempunctata

Description:

Ladybugs, ladybirds, or lady beetles Red, black spotted dome shell, short legs, antennae. White spots on either side of the head.

Habitat:

Many-but here it was in our front driveway.

Notes:

We learned a lot of neat things about Lady Bugs-especially that they can secrete a yucky substance from their legs so they are not so tasty to their predators, and that their scientific name resembles their french name, "coccinelle." We also found this neat activity for older kids, but thought it would just be fun to adapt it fro our use! http://www.amnh.org/learn/biodiversity_c...
