Description:

Hollowed out beetle of some species laying out in the So-Cal heat.

Habitat:

Spotted in backyard in Escondido, California.

Notes:

These beetles have been found in California from February-October and in Arizona in May and October by members of bugguide at http://bugguide.net/node/view/13061

Found it, this is an Australian Tortoise Beetle!

Yep, I have no clue what it is exactly, couldn't narrow it down much Cindy. The closest I have so far is Swamp Milkweed Leaf Beetle.
