Awesome spotting Mauricio! I love these snakes! and completely correct about the sayings. Red on Black friend of jack and red on yellow kill a fellow only works within the US. Outside of the US coral snakes can be blue, white or any combination in between. Plus there are plenty of other deadly snakes that are no where near that saying. Definitely, know your species before touching it.

wow! first spotting and already spotting of the day! congrats!

Friends just be aware with all those sayings about colours. NOT always red on black is harmless!! You can find very poisonous coral snakes with different patterns. Some examples are Micrurus lemniscatus, Micrurus frontalis or Micrurus ruatanus. All these coral snakes would be friendly fellows according to the saying but if you touch it you 'll get in serious problems. Just remember: Never touch a snake if you are not completely sure on what the specie is!!. Enjoy the nature!!

What happens if there are coral snakes around too? We were taught, "Red on Black, friendly fella, Red on Yellow, beware the fellow. I would assume this was a poisonous snake, except coral snakes are rounder in body shape and head is not nearly as unique as this northern ringed snake, and i do't think coral snakes get as long as 1.7 meters. Comments?

Spotting of the Day!

"The Northern Ringed Snake is a non-venomous and rare mimic of a venomous coral snake. Coral snake color patterns deter predators from attacking."
